Memorial Day…

This holiday has always had a special place in my heart. Although we didn’t have any dead military family members at the time, we picked beautiful irises and roses and then spent the day hopping from cemetery to cemetery ever since I was little. Then I lost my mom, step dad, and sister and it became even more important for me to take time to reflect. A couple of thoughts I had yesterday as the day went on. . .

Why are we so busy that the only day the cemetery gets to look so extra beautiful is Memorial day?

Do other countries celebrate their military divisions and their freedoms as much as America does?

My heart is always full at the sacrifice the men and women make to protect our country and it is nice to be able to remember that, but one day a year shouldn’t just be it. Here is a brief history of Memorial day, explaining that this holiday is actually more than just BBQ’ing, Boating, and family parties was posted on GMA’s page this weekend… Memorial Day History

I found this beautiful article written by Johann Christoph Arnold about celebrating the life that is left behind when these military members leave us… After the Parades and Picnics.
